The weakness of the people who are known as good people
Some people ask me, “Why is it that people who are known as good people or people who appear to be seeking God and Buddha are unhappy in this world, while people who do not seek God and Buddha or people who work recklessly and shamelessly are happy?”
Generally speaking, people who are conscientious and people who think seriously about life tend to envy those who have pushed others to riches or those who have risen in status while doing wrong, and they often suffer by blaming and criticizing themselves.
Such, so called good people are people who always reflect on what they should and should not do, and cannot plunge into anything if they think there is just a bit of wrong.
However, in my teaching, I do not call such people good people. It is because they judge and ill-treat their own freedom of life and do not make use of their own life. If they talk of God, they do not realize the Divine Will.
What it means to realize the Divine Will is that we are Wake-inochi*, so we are free to stretch out our life and live it freely and vibrantly, without restraint. Therefore, to fulfill the Divine Mind, we have to let live our life voluntarily and spontaneously.
Note:
Wake-inochi: A branch-life of God
It is not good people who bully only themselves or criticize others out of a narrow mindedness, saying that it is wrong to do this or that. I do not say such people are good people. They just appear to be so. Why? Because they hurt themselves.
Hurting others is wrong, but hurting yourself is also wrong. That is why I advocate that you love yourself and love others, forgive yourself and forgive others. And I always put yourself first.
High spirits are in high spirits.
I found an interesting phrase in English. It is “in high spirits.” High spirits means high-level spirits in English. And “in high spirits” means “in a good mood” in English. So, in English, being in a good mood and being a high spirit are the same thing. A person who is always in a good mood and cheerful is a high spirit. When I saw the English phrase, I found it interesting.
So called good people reflect initially. They think over on every single thing they do, wondering whether or not it is in accordance with the Divine Will, or the way of Buddha; humane or inhumane. This may sound like a good thing to do. However, it is not. To reflect is just to reflect, “Oh, I was wrong,” once and change yourself on the spot.
It is foolish to keep repeating, “I was bad.” month after month. It is as if you were enjoying saying, “I was wrong.” (Laughs) It is enough to say it just once.
It is better to say, “Oh no, I won’t do it anymore. Kieteyuku Sugata*!” Then, you can go on doing good things. However, most good people are repititious. They are too verbose. And so they are not liked. It is not good to be repititious to yourself either. This is especially true with women.
Note:
Kieteyuku Sugata: The process of fading away, literally translated, which is the essential view in the practice of praying the Prayer for World Peace.
That is very silly. Once you feel sorry, that is enough, isn’t it? If that doesn’t make it fade away, you put the bad thing in your prayer for World Peace saying, “Oh my God, I won’t do it again. I’m sorry. May Peace Prevail on Earth…” Thus, you go into the prayer and change your perspective. You take it to the brighter side, to your high spirits who are in high spirits. Then you will feel brighter.
In short, being cheerful from morning to night means you have less stains, or Gō.
Note:
Gō: Here it means Gō-sōnen which is karmic thoughts that came to exist when we defined ourselves as physical entities. It has been accumulated in the subconscious realm of humans from the past lives up to the present.
Not to be caught in the thought vibrations of yourself and others
It is important to be in high spirits no matter what right reason you have and how good you are and how bad your opponent is, and no matter what undesirable circumstance you are in. Being in a bad, angry, or gloomy mood is all Kieteyuku Sugata.
Therefore, always keep your mood bright. Whoever you meet, it would be best if you give them a pleasant feeling; what a cheerful or pleasant person you are. It is not a matter of how you look. There are people who are not good-looking but very cheeful. Other people are good-looking but make you feel gloomy when you meet them. Such people are not really high spirits. To be a high spirit, you need to be in high spirits all the time.
Some people are good on the outside and bad on the inside. Such people are half high spirits. (Laughs) Other people are good on the inside and bad on the outside. Either of them is no good.
If you are not good both inside and outside, you are not a true high spirit. This means that you need to have an open mind, free from all attachments. Being free from all attachments in any situation means a greatest personality.
As much as you have attachments, if you have good thoughts of concern for the nation or for humankind, it is not right. There are people who are thinking about the well-being of humankind, saying that humanity is this or that. Yet they always have a gloomy face. As much as they have a gloomy face, it works negatively for humanity. Without knowing it, they are saying that humanity, the world or Japan, is this or that. This will not make anything.
Thoughts decide everything.
Because thoughts decide everything, each person’s thoughts, whether they are bright and cheerful or moody and gloomy, simply put, determine his or her destiny.
Scholars explain it in technical language. Fundamentally speaking, what is the mind that is essential? It is the mind that is bright and cheerful and is never upset no matter what happens. The mind that will never be darkened or filled with anger and is always bright, gentle, and cheerful, no matter what happens.
Such is the Divine Mind. Therefore, seeking God outside is not really the solution. It is not “God in heaven” but “God in us.” What is that God? It is bright, gentle and full of compassion. It is, therefore, against the Divine Mind to say, “God! God!” and bully others and yourself, or hurt yourself. Harming yourself and others is a violation of the Divine Will, so we must be cheerful and in high spirit. How do we do that? We just have to get rid of our bad moods.
However, everyone is catching on to their grumpiness, saying, “I’m somewhat embarrassed.” As it is a disturbance of karma, you have to take it somewhere. In other words, you have to take it to the Divinities and have them take care of it. You should not hold feelings of unhappiness. But, if you catch them, it would be best that you come in the Great Light of the Prayer for World Peace, just as you hold them.
Let us be each other’s advisors.
The Divine Light is shining within oneself, but one is too weak to enter the Light of Hon-shin*. Surrounded by Gō, one cannot but be trapped by anger or anxiety. If one enters their Hon-shin, such negative emotions will disappear. However, one cannot enter their Hon-shin, and they are taken away by the Gō-sōnen that comes up.
Notes:
Hon-shin: The true mind, literally translated, is the divine self of a person, or real you, that comes from the Divine world.
Gō-sōnen: Karmic thoughts which came to exist when we defined ourselves as physical entities. They have been accumulated in the subconscious realm of humans from the past lives up to the present.
So then, what do you do? You take them to a person whose Hon-shin is revealed prominently and say, “What shall I do?” Then they will vanish and you become the brighter. That is all you have to do for each other. If that is not sufficient, you can bring them to me. Then I will clap my hands and smile at you, and they will disappear.
People often say that they have been thinking about asking me this and that, but when they sit down in front of me, they forget all and have nothing to say. You do not have to say anything. Just come and bask in the Divine Light.
You become each other’s advisors. One day you may feel wonderfully enlightened and feel that you can advise on anything, but the next day you may feel down and consult with the person who consulted with you the day before. Feeling up at one time and down at another is not high-spirited in a true sense. But since this physical world is a world of Gō-shō*, where Gō-sōnen affect on each other, so you cannot help but get captivated. They are vibrations.
A typhoon is now blowing in the area. My right arm is aching as if twisted. However, I only think it hurts, and I am fine when I clap Kashiwade*. The vibrations get on me like this as well. The thoughts of humanity come to everyone. They match with the Gō within oneself and draw them out, causing feelings of anxiety and anger.
Notes:
Gō-shō: Karmic existence, a mixture of good and bad.
Kashiwade: Goi Sensei clapped his hands marvelously for purification which had tremendous sound and energy.
Thinking only of God now
However, it is not that one is. It is not that one is angry. It is not that one is anxious. It is not that one is envious. It is not that one becomes hysterical. What makes you hysterical, etc., is that somewhere in humanity there is the karmic thought of hysteria. It comes to your mind, and the Gō within you is drawn out, and you feel as if you are hysterical.
Therefore, as a first step, it is better if you can clearly distinguish your emotional thoughts from your shining Hon-shin. If you can think, “Now, some Gō is coming out very actively, but this is Kieteyuku Sugata,” then you’ve got it. The rest is just a matter of time.
If you can think, “Oh, my Hon-shin is shining. Gō is now vanishing. It may disappeare in some hours, or in a few days,” then it is easier. You might hit your child two or three times in the while, and it cannot be helped. Before there was the teaching of Kieteyuku Sugata, you wondered why you were so short-tempered or resentful while having been in faith so long.
However, you who think of the Divine and you who get angry or jealous are different. The uneasy you is different, either. They are Kieteyuku Sugata. They are not you at present, but vibrations emitted in your past lives. Such waves are appearing to disappear. They are not the vibrations that you are emitting now. The thought vibrations you are emitting now is thinking of the Divine. However, while people now think of God, they are clinging to their defects saying, “I’m wrong.” or “That person is wrong.” and so on.
Get a hold of your true self who are always in high spirits.
Thinking, “That person is wrong.” or “I am wrong.” is Kieteyuku Sugata of thoughts from previous lives, not of now. But people are still thinking, “No, no, no.” If they are thinking,”No, no,” they are grasping and attracting Gō. It is foolish. That’s what religions have been teaching until now, as if it were a religion, telling people that their mind is wrong.
That is fine at the beginning, but when their mind becomes habituated to it and accustomed to it, they begin to think when they see someone, “That person is such and such.” Or, they think when they see their own little evil, “Oh, this is such and such.” It is a bother every time. They are always picking on themselves and others. Thus, they make the atmosphere in the house gloomy.
People who should be in high spirits are instead thinking, “That person has a wrong mind.” or “My mind is wrong.” being captivated by evils, making everyone gloomy and grumpy. If that is the case, if they talk of God, such God is nothing. That is neither God nor Buddha. It is Gō-sōnen. Let us not be captivated by evil. The evil is Kieteyuku Sugata of wrong thoughts. They are not real. Therefore, you should only get hold of your true self.
What is the true self? It is the self in high spirits. It is the bright, meek, and shining self. All the other selves are not what there should be. They are all selves that are Kieteyuku Sugata. This is what you should think of all the way through.
All that soil your mind, make your mind anxious, hysterical, envious, are all Kieteyuku Sugata. They simply pass over before your mind. All you have to do is to enter the Divine Mind, the Prayer for World Peace while they pass by. Then later, you will feel bright and fine, and think, “Oh, that was good for me.”
Therefore, always keep your Hon-shin and Gō-sōnen separate. If you see them as Kieteyuku Sugata, your inner Light will gradually get bigger and bigger, and it will shine brightly throughout the universe. Then you will always be in hight spirits.
The Prayer for World Peace
